Evaluation and Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders and Craniofacial Pain (TMD)

Date: April 22-23, 2022

Location: TMJ and Sleep Therapy Centre, Granger, IN

The weekend of April 22 and 23, 2022 lent itself to a memorable TMD course with Dr. Klauer, at his beautiful new TMJ and Sleep Therapy Centre in Granger, Indiana. His beautifully built clinic is state of the art, and provided an amazing learning environment for one of the most electric group of practitioners I have had the pleasure to lecture to with PTs, OTs, Chiropractors, Myofunctional Therapists, Dental Hygienists, and Nurse Practitioners. Mike Verplancke from Freedom Physical Therapy Services did a wonderful job assisting as always! Dr. Klauer provided a roughly 2-hour presentation as well entitled:

Complicated Cases and Appliance Design: Working as a Team, allowed him to provide education on various oral appliance designs, the importance of assessing for Obstructive Sleep Disorders, and some of the other State of Art dental approaches to treat TMD issues including Prolotherapy and PRF, Platelet Rich Fibrin. All in all, a fantastic opportunity to collaborate, share and learn across so many health care disciplines. I look forward to doing more of these in the future. Thanks to Dr. Klauer and his Team for being a wonderful Host and for the awesome participants!

Evaluation and Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders and Craniofacial Pain (TMD)

Date: February 24, 2022, and March 2, 2022

Location: Marquette University, Milwaukee WI

On Thursday, February 24th and March 2nd Freedom’s own Michael Verplancke DPT, CFC, CMTPT, CSCS, and myself, had the wonderful opportunity to provide a 2-hour lecture and then lab time to the Marquette University PT students on the Evaluation and Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders and Craniofacial Pain. During Lab, Erin Bafunno DPT, CMTPT, from Freedom was there as she is an educator and lab instructor for the Marquette University for PT Student Program. It is always fun to provide some insight and awareness of TMJ-related issues to these upcoming new graduates, that will soon be full-fledged Physical Therapists. Best of luck to them all and thank you to Marquette University for the opportunity to share our passion!

Evaluation and Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders and Craniofacial Pain (TMD)

Date: February 26-27, 2022

Location: Fort Wayne, IN

On the weekend of February 26th and 27th, 2022 Freedom’s own Michael Verplancke DPT, CFC, CMTPT, CSCS, and I, had the pleasure of teaching our 2-day Temporomandibular and Orofacial Pain course to the therapists at Indiana Physical Therapy. I really applaud the owners of IPT Andy Vogel, Dave Kuhn, and Troy Smith. It is no easy task in this current health care environment to run and own truly independent physical therapy-owned private practices. IPT now has 21 clinics, representing 14 cities in Indiana, and has been in business for 34 years! Their entire staff of therapists was fantastic with expert manual skills. I think the addition and further growth in the knowledge and treatment in TMD will continue to provide them an edge over their competition. A big thanks to Ben Swinehart DPT at Indiana Physical Therapy for the invite and Courtney Lichti HR assistant at IPT for managing all the communications! Keep up the great work IPT! Continue to promote the value of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy!

IMPROVING CLINICAL REASONING SKILLS IN THE EVALUATION AND TREATMENT OF LOW BACK AND LEG PAIN

Date: February 18-20, 2022

Location: Fox Point, WI

Freedom Physical Therapy Services was proud to host yet another Mark Bookhout Seminars Course IMPROVING CLINICAL REASONING SKILLS IN THE EVALUATION AND TREATMENT OF LOW BACK AND LEG PAIN. Our Instructor, Kyle Cook, MPT, OCS, was amazing and did an awesome job instructing our Freedom Staff of therapists and some outside participants. This two and ½ day course focused on the evaluation and treatment of low back and leg pain from a neurological and biomechanical perspective. Correlations between the pathophysiology of this area and a patient’s clinical presentation were discussed in detail. This course included the clinical presentation and treatment of a herniated lumbar disc, facet joint dysfunction, stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and lumbar and sacroiliac dysfunctions. Evaluation of the thoracolumbar junction, lumbar spine, pelvis, and hips were presented in such a way that the participants were able to decide which treatment approach has the best chance of success. Treatment techniques were eclectic in nature and included neural mobilization, muscle energy, articulatory techniques, mobilization with movement, directional specific repeated movements, and home exercises.

Evaluation and Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorder and Craniofacial Pain (TMD)

Date: February 5-6, 2022

Location: Kalispell, MT

I had the pleasure of teaching my TMD and Orofacial Pain course the weekend of February 6 and 7, 2022 at Advanced Rehabilitation Services in Kalispell, Montana. What a great Private Practice owned by my good friend Tim Gibbs, his wife Jolene, and Brian Miller, comprised of very skilled physical therapists with credentials and expertise in Vestibular Rehab, along with Women’s Health, and great spinal expertise. It was my first time in Montana, Kalispell and Whitefish are just a beautiful part of America. It was a wonderful time!
