I had the pleasure of teaching my Advanced Level 2 TMJ Course at BeActive Physio in Oakville, ON, Canada. This is the 4th time Milay Patel and Sanket Shah (Owners) have been kind enough to invite me and host one of my courses! BeActive Physio’s team of clinicians is amazing. It is always a pleasure to be surrounded by other amazing Physical Therapists, Chiropractors, and a Dentist, all of whom have a strong interest and passion for treating Temporomandibular Disorders, Headaches, Orofacial Pain, and Cervical Spine Pain. We were all together about a year ago for Level 1, and it was so great to see the group all together again this past weekend. This was an exceptional group; they were all so engaged, interested, eager to learn, and share. There was so much collaboration between the 3 disciplines of Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, and Dentistry.
During my visit to the Toronto area, I was able to visit again with Dr. Farid Ayad of Ayad Dental, and he introduced me to Dr. Tim Damaso, DC, a chiropractor from the area who oversees numerous Physio Med Clinics all around the area. It was a wonderful visit and lots of brainstorming.
I was able to meet up with Brett Weiss, PT, CCTT of Headway Physio, who also attended my Level 2 course. Brett owns a Head, Neck, and Jaw Clinic in the Toronto area. Brett is amazingly talented and skilled in the Evaluation and Treatment of TMD. It was great to see his wonderful facility. Brett is also a CCTT, Certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapist, and has been hugely instrumental in marketing and updating the PTBCCT Website, The Physical Therapy Board of Craniofacial and Cervical Therapeutics. I currently serve as the President of the PTBCCT and am very excited about all the contributions our new board members and various committee folks have made and have volunteered so much of their time.
We also had Dr. Jon Gasner, DDS, attend my Level 2 course. It was so great to have a Dentist in the room so we can all appreciate the dental side of TMD and how together we can all work collaboratively for the benefit of our mutual patients. Dr. Gasner was also able to share his exciting new product development called PhysioJaw. He is currently getting it approved as a Class 2 medical-grade device. It is a wonderful vibratory handheld device to work extraorally and intraorally on all of the muscles that can contribute to head, neck, and jaw pain. He was able to demonstrate his exciting product. It was also great to have Dr. Gasner there when I went through how a non-dentist can do a brief screen of the teeth for potential fractures and other issues! Again, he was able to provide his dental knowledge and skill, from which we all benefited.
Finally, my kind, generous, and wonderful friends and colleagues Milay and Sanket at Beactive Physio, they have a very talented crew, great leadership, and skilled mentorship through Milay and Sanket! Oakville, ON is lucky to have access to these highly skilled and caring clinicians. Thank you, Milay and Sanket, for being such gracious hosts! I am very fortunate; until we do this all again!!
